Memphis to New Orleans: Early American Music
A photographer’s journey of discovery of blues, rhythm and blues, and early rock and roll
My intent is to create a visually poetic documentation of the birthplaces of the roots of American Music. This series began in August 2010, as I traced these origins from Clarksdale, MS to New Orleans, LA along HWY 61, or the “blues trail.” I mapped out many destinations along the way that include, but are not limited to: birthplaces, grave sites, juke joints, churches, recording studios, homes, crossroads, and museums.
